Luka Doncic scores second-most points in EuroBasket history as Slovenian star drops 47 in win over France

Fresh off a win against Germany on Tuesday in which Luka Doncic finished with 36 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, a reporter asked the Slovenian superstar who he thinks will score the most points in a single EuroBasket game between himself, Nikola Jokic or Giannis Antetokounmpo. Doncic thought about it for a second, and said he would put his money on Antetokounmpo.

"I'd bet on Giannis," Doncic said. "Why? Because he's Giannis Antetokounmpo."

That's a reasonable answer, especially since Giannis just put up 41 points hours before Doncic took on Germany, which turned out to be the most points in a EuroBasket game since Dirk Nowitzki scored 43 in 2001. However, just 20 hours after Slovenia knocked off the previously unbeaten Germany team, Doncic followed up his stellar performance from Tuesday with an absurd 47-point game in a win against France to help his team finish in first place in Group B. Not only did Doncic's point total surpass Giannis' mark, it was also the most points scored in a single EuroBasket game in the last 65 years and second-highest scoring tally in the tournament's history.

It took a while for Doncic to get settled into the game, missing free-throw opportunities in the first quarter and trying to get his teammates involved with his passing. But when the second quarter began, he started off by knocking down back-to-back 3-point shots, a tell-tale sign the 23 year old is starting to heat up.

Then came this completely ridiculous play with four minutes left in the first half, in which Doncic shirks off the double-team pressure from France to pull off this circus-like 3-point shot:

Slovenian forward and member of the Denver Nuggets, Vlatko Cancar knew Doncic had it cooking when he made that shot.

"When I saw that, I was like, 'Yeah, it's going to be a long night for France,'" Cancar said.

Doncic's built up a reputation for knocking down wild shots like that dating back to his days playing with Real Madrid as a teenager, but it doesn't make it any less shocking when he actually pulls it off.

By the end of the first half Doncic already worked his way up to 27 points, and his dominance carried over into the second half as well. He worked in his increasingly dangerous mid-range game, picked apart mismatches to get his shots at the rim and his 3-ball was falling, something that has been a bit of a weakness of his over this tournament.

What's most impressive about Doncic's performance was he only needed 23 shots to get to 47 points, shooting 65 percent from the field and 55 percent from 3-point territory. Every shot of Doncic's was a necessity for Slovenia, who battled back and forth with France to the very end to claim the top spot in Group B before heading to the knockout stage.

The last two performances we've seen from Doncic in this tournament should be a scary sight for the rest of the NBA. Though there's still over a month away from the 2022-23 NBA season, Doncic looks like he's in the best shape of his NBA career while playing with Slovenia. He's added some muscle, which has made him even stronger when he drives to the rim and posts-up smaller defenders, and he hasn't looked like he's skipped a beat since carrying the Dallas Mavericks to the Western Conference finals last season.

Doncic is currently the favorite to win MVP next season, according to Caesars Sportsbook, and if this is the version we're going to get of him, then it won't be surprising to see him win that hardware at season's end.

Video Of How 'Fake Klay Thompson' Got Past The Warriors Security And Gets Shots On The Court

The Golden State Warriors ended up winning Game 5 of the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics and took a 3-2 lead in the series. It feels certain that the Dubs will win this series and win their fourth NBA Championship in the last eight years. While winning the finals will mean a lot for every player on the Dubs' roster, it will certainly mean more for Klay Thompson. Klay was sidelined due to injuries over the last two seasons and made a comeback this season. Finishing off the season with a ring will certainly be the cherry on top for him. Speaking of Klay Thompson, an incident took place around a certain lookalike of the Warriors' sharpshooter. We are sure you must remember the 'Fake Klay Thompson' who got famous a few years ago. Prior to Game 5 of the series, Fake Klay snuck into the Chase Center and got shots up before the matchup began. NBA fans found this hilarious, but it seems like the Warriors organization didn't. He was handed a lifetime ban from th...

Dennis Rodman Once Said He, Michael Jordan, And Scottie Pippen Could Lock Up LeBron James: "LeBron Is So Easy To Play. He’s So F**king Easy To Play. He Doesn’t Have Any Moves."

If there is something that will never end it is the comparison between players from different eras. Even in that niche, most comparisons revolve around the legendary players from the Chicago Bulls. Yes, we are talking about the likes of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman. A perfect example of that was seen by fans back in a 2019 interview featuring Dennis Rodman. The Worm was asked about his thoughts on guarding none other than LeBron James. Rodman replied: (starts at 6:06) "You know who could lock up LeBron? Me, Mike, and Scottie could. F*ck yeah. I would have locked his a** up. LeBron is so easy to play. He’s so f*cking easy to play, he don’t have any moves. Only move he has is streak down the line. He ain’t got no moves. Where he going?? Where is he going that’s quick? That’ll be sh*t, you can stop that. Scottie Pippen would have shut his f*cking a** down quick before I get to him. His game is too simple, he’s just big. I’m 260 and 6’8” and 6’9”, that’s the onl...

Bill Russell Is Only The 5th NBA MVP To Pass Away After Kobe Bryant, Moses Malone, Wes Unseld, And Wilt Chamberlain

The NBA just celebrated its 75th Anniversary last season, showing that the league is much younger than most of the major sports leagues worldwide. As a result, most of the legends of the game are still around and are allowing younger players to get first-hand advice from them.  Bill Russell was the most legendary player from the '60s and dominated the league by winning 11 championships in 13 years. He also won 5 NBA MVP awards in his era, proving that his defensive prowess is something that could catapult him to be an MVP despite never averaging more than 19 points a season.  Russell passed away yesterday and became only the 5th NBA MVP in history to pass away. The first one to do so was Wilt Chamberlain in 1999, followed by Moses Malone in 2015, Kobe Bryant and Wes Unseld in 2020, and now Russell in 2022. These are legends of the game, and it is heartbreaking to know that they aren't amongst us anymore. This observation was made by Reddit user u/WeaponFactory. Chamberl...
