Michigan's Juwan Howard declines interest from Lakers as serious candidate for coaching job, per report

  Michigan coach Juwan Howard has declined interest from the Los Angeles Lakers to be considered as part of their ongoing search for a new coach, according to ESPN. Howard will instead remain with the Wolverines as scheduled for the upcoming 2022-23 college basketball season. Though Howard did not express interest in the Lakers job, ESPN reports that "his candidacy would've moved quickly" to a formal offer from one of the NBA's most iconic franchises had he been open to coaching in the league next season. Howard plans to remain in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he will coach his sons next season. Jace will be a junior at Michigan, while younger son Jett will be a freshman. There are several strong connections to the current Lakers franchise for Howard, which likely made him an intriguing candidate both for the front office and key members of the roster. Spurs' Gregg Popovich ties Don Nelson for most coaching wins in NBA history after victory over Lakers

  With the San Antonio Spurs' 117-110 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on March 7, Gregg Popovich is now tied with Don Nelson as the two winningest coaches in NBA history. The Spurs snapped a four-game losing streak in their victory over the Lakers, and it gave Popovich his 1,335th career win, which ties Nelson for the most the league has ever seen over a head coaching career.  The primary difference between the two legendary coaches is that Nelson accumulated his wins across four different franchises in five total coaching stints. Nelson led the Bucks, Warriors, Knicks and Mavericks, but Popovich has only ever coached a single NBA team. In 1996, Popovich, then serving as San Antonio's general manager, fired Bob Hill and inserted himself as his team's head coach. That proved to be one of the best moves he ever made. Zion Williamson posts Instagram video of monster between-the-legs dunk while recovering from foot injury

  Zion Williamson's status has been one of the great mysteries of the 2021-22 season. When he was initially diagnosed with a fractured foot, he was expected to be available in time for the beginning of the season. And then he wasn't. The New Orleans Pelicans offered only vague and inconsistent updates. Williamson himself never spoke. And now, with the season coming to an end, it appears as though Williamson won't be returning to the floor at all. After missing most of his rookie year, his third season is on track to come and go without a minute of game time as well.  Where that leaves Williamson moving forward, we can't say, but for the first time in months, the Pelicans forward gave fans a morsel of optimism.
