Patrick Beverley calls Russell Westbrook 'trash' after Lakers guard commits turnover against Timberwolves

It's no secret that it has been a rough season for Russell Westbrook in his first year with the Los Angeles Lakers. He hasn't meshed well on the court with LeBron James, and it has resulted in a 29-39 record for L.A. as its only path to the playoffs now is through the play-in tournament.

On Wednesday night, as the Lakers continue to stay afloat amidst a disappointing season, they found themselves once again playing from behind, as they trailed by as many as 25 points in the first half against the Minnesota Timberwolves for the third-straight game.

With the Timberwolves up big over the Lakers, Minnesota guard Patrick Beverley took the opportunity to troll Westbrook. After deflecting Westbrook's entry pass to LeBron at the end of the second quarter, which led to a foul on the other end by the Lakers, Beverley started shouting "he's trash," while pointing back at Westbrook. He repeated it again in the direction of L.A.'s bench while plugging his nose, taking another shot at the former league MVP.

Beverley's widely known for being a trash talker in the league, but when it comes to Westbrook, the two have a lengthy history of taking shots at each other. It started back in 2019 when Westbrook was a member of the Houston Rockets and said that Beverley just runs around on defense and that he's tricked everyone by thinking he's a good defender. That quickly became a running joke about Beverley's defense, despite him being a three-time All-Defensive Team selection.

Then this season, as Westbrook has continuously struggled, Beverley took the chance to make his own joke about the guard, saying on Twitter, "I remember when somebody said all I do is run around and I trick y'all. Well my boy is the real magician this year." So it's not surprising that Beverley didn't shy away from trash-talking Westbrook as the two teams faced each other Wednesday night.
