Kobe Bryant Estate reaches new long-term deal with Nike

The Kobe Bryant Estate has reached a new long-term contract with Nike to continue producing both footwear and apparel from Bryant's Zoom Kobe series, Vanessa Bryant and Nike announced on Thursday.

The news comes nearly a year after Kobe Bryant's initial endorsement deal with Nike expired.

"We're excited to announce our partnership with Nike is going to continue!" Vanessa Bryant wrote in an Instagram post. "I am so proud that my husband's shoes are still the most worn by players on NBA courts and that the demand for his shoes remain so desired by his fans around the world."

Nearly 20% of NBA players have worn a Nike Kobe sneaker for a game since Bryant's death along with his daughter, Gianna, in a January 2020 helicopter crash. During the 2019-20 season, 102 of the 322 total players competing in the league's restart at the Walt Disney World Resort wore a Kobe sneaker.

From Nike's perspective, they'll look to provide young athletes access to youth sports, with several initiatives planned globally to honor Bryant's legacy.

"Kobe Bryant means so much to so many of us, not just NBA fans but globally beyond the game," John Donahoe, Nike's president & CEO said in a statement. "His impact in growing the sport, particularly encouraging women and young people to pick it up, endures as one of his deepest, lasting legacies. Together with Vanessa, we hope to honor Kobe and Gigi by championing a new generation for many years to come."

In addition to re-releases of the 11 signature Kobe models worn by Bryant during his career, and potentially his six post-career models as well, Nike will also be launching a new Gigi Bryant shoe series, with a charity component.

"With this new partnership, fans will soon be able to have access to Kobe and Gigi Nike product for years to come," Vanessa Bryant said. "Nike [is] donating 100% of the net proceeds yearly for Gianna's shoes to our Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation (M&MSF)."

According to Nike, the first release from the renewed partnership could arrive as soon as May 1, which would have been Gianna Bryant's 16th birthday. Styled in "Gigi's" black and white "Mamba Ballers" team uniform colors, with gold accents, that shoe was originally produced just before last April's contract expiration, and never officially released.

"The first new shoe from the partnership, the Kobe 6 Protro 'Mambacita Sweet 16' will honor Gigi Bryant," Nike said in a statement. "All proceeds from the shoe will benefit the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation."

During stalled talks leading up to the eventual expiration of the deal last year, the Kobe Bryant Estate had pushed for Nike to produce a higher volume of shoes for the re-release launches as well as the expansion of Kobe's shoes to include kids' sizes. But another key element in renewing the partnership with Nike was its commitment to launching a new basketball facility in Bryant's name.

"I am also grateful that Nike and I will work together to establish a youth basketball center in Southern California that will share the Mamba Mentality with youth athletes for generations to come," Vanessa Bryant wrote.

While the production process and timeline for new sneaker designs can typically take anywhere from 14-18 months, several of Nike's Kobe sneakers can be accessed for factory production sooner than that, sources told ESPN, now that a new contract with the Kobe Bryant Estate is in place.

"I know this is an inspiring moment for my husband and daughter's global fans," Vanessa Bryant said. "And I am very appreciative of each and every one of you!"

Video Of How 'Fake Klay Thompson' Got Past The Warriors Security And Gets Shots On The Court

The Golden State Warriors ended up winning Game 5 of the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics and took a 3-2 lead in the series. It feels certain that the Dubs will win this series and win their fourth NBA Championship in the last eight years. While winning the finals will mean a lot for every player on the Dubs' roster, it will certainly mean more for Klay Thompson. Klay was sidelined due to injuries over the last two seasons and made a comeback this season. Finishing off the season with a ring will certainly be the cherry on top for him. Speaking of Klay Thompson, an incident took place around a certain lookalike of the Warriors' sharpshooter. We are sure you must remember the 'Fake Klay Thompson' who got famous a few years ago. Prior to Game 5 of the series, Fake Klay snuck into the Chase Center and got shots up before the matchup began. NBA fans found this hilarious, but it seems like the Warriors organization didn't. He was handed a lifetime ban from th...

Dennis Rodman Once Said He, Michael Jordan, And Scottie Pippen Could Lock Up LeBron James: "LeBron Is So Easy To Play. He’s So F**king Easy To Play. He Doesn’t Have Any Moves."

If there is something that will never end it is the comparison between players from different eras. Even in that niche, most comparisons revolve around the legendary players from the Chicago Bulls. Yes, we are talking about the likes of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman. A perfect example of that was seen by fans back in a 2019 interview featuring Dennis Rodman. The Worm was asked about his thoughts on guarding none other than LeBron James. Rodman replied: (starts at 6:06) "You know who could lock up LeBron? Me, Mike, and Scottie could. F*ck yeah. I would have locked his a** up. LeBron is so easy to play. He’s so f*cking easy to play, he don’t have any moves. Only move he has is streak down the line. He ain’t got no moves. Where he going?? Where is he going that’s quick? That’ll be sh*t, you can stop that. Scottie Pippen would have shut his f*cking a** down quick before I get to him. His game is too simple, he’s just big. I’m 260 and 6’8” and 6’9”, that’s the onl...

Bill Russell Is Only The 5th NBA MVP To Pass Away After Kobe Bryant, Moses Malone, Wes Unseld, And Wilt Chamberlain

The NBA just celebrated its 75th Anniversary last season, showing that the league is much younger than most of the major sports leagues worldwide. As a result, most of the legends of the game are still around and are allowing younger players to get first-hand advice from them.  Bill Russell was the most legendary player from the '60s and dominated the league by winning 11 championships in 13 years. He also won 5 NBA MVP awards in his era, proving that his defensive prowess is something that could catapult him to be an MVP despite never averaging more than 19 points a season.  Russell passed away yesterday and became only the 5th NBA MVP in history to pass away. The first one to do so was Wilt Chamberlain in 1999, followed by Moses Malone in 2015, Kobe Bryant and Wes Unseld in 2020, and now Russell in 2022. These are legends of the game, and it is heartbreaking to know that they aren't amongst us anymore. This observation was made by Reddit user u/WeaponFactory. Chamberl...
