NBA win totals: The Lakers and Nets aren't hitting the over this season


 


If you bet the under on the Lakers and Nets’ win totals before the season you can start counting your winnings.


Los Angeles and Brooklyn are both guaranteed to hit the under with less than 30 games to go in the 2021-22 NBA season. Brooklyn had a win total of 56.5 at BetMGM and is 31-28 with 23 games left to go. The Lakers’ win total was 52.5 and LA is currently 27-31 and in ninth place in the West. A 24-game win streak for the Lakers to end the season would put LA at 51-31 to end the season.


Just one other team has no path to hitting the over this season. Indiana started the year with a win total of 42.5. The Pacers struggled to start the season and sit at 20-40 with 22 games to go after trading Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings and Caris LeVert to the Cleveland Cavaliers.


There are a few other teams who are very close to going under their preseason win totals as well. Here are the teams that are likely to end the season under their win totals.


Atlanta Hawks


O/U: 47.5


Current record: 28-30


The Hawks need to go 18-6 over their last 24 games to get to 48 wins. That’s pretty unlikely given the way Atlanta has underachieved this season after making the Eastern Conference finals this spring.


Detroit Pistons


O/U: 24.5


Current record: 13-45


Detroit had the second-lowest over/under in the Eastern Conference and looks set to easily hit the under. Can you see Detroit going 12-12 to finish the season? We certainly can’t.


Houston Rockets


O/U: 27.5


Current record: 15-43


The Rockets need to finish the season 13-11 to get the over. After winning just 15 of its first 58 games, Houston isn’t going to do that. A high draft pick is waiting for the Rockets.


Los Angeles Clippers


O/U: 45.5


Current record: 30-31


Yes, the Clippers played an astounding 61 games before the All-Star break. It’s not impossible for Los Angeles to go 16-5 over the final 21 games of the season, but this was an over/under that counted a full season of Paul George and the possibility of a Kawhi Leonard return at some point.


Milwaukee Bucks


O/U: 54.5


Current record: 36-24


The Bucks need to go 19-3 the rest of the way. While Milwaukee is one of the best teams in basketball when it has Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday on the court together, we can’t see the Bucks making a huge push down the stretch instead of focusing on getting ready for a playoff run in an exceptionally deep Eastern Conference.


New Orleans Pelicans


O/U: 39.5


Current record: 23-36


Most of us assumed that Zion Williamson would be on the court for the Pelicans at some point this season. That doesn’t appear to be happening. New Orleans is just two games outside the play-in tournament in the Western Conference and has a shot at making the four-team bracket. But a run of 17-6 to end the season would be a shock.


Portland Trail Blazers


O/U: 44.5


Current record: 25-34


New Orleans is chasing Portland for that 10th spot and we’re not sure Portland really wants it. After all, the Blazers traded CJ McCollum to the Pelicans and Damian Lillard has played in just 29 games as he’s dealt with an oblique injury for most of the season.


Sacramento Kings



O/U: 36.5


Current record: 22-38


The Kings now have Sabonis to pair with De’Aaron Fox as they also chase the play-in tournament. Sacramento has to go 15-7 over the final 22 games of the season to hit its over and the final stretch of the season isn’t easy. The Kings play the Nuggets three times, Phoenix twice and also have Utah, Dallas, Chicago, Milwaukee, Boston and Golden State on the schedule.
