Lakers star LeBron James reveals 1 Bronny James wish before retirement

LeBron James has just made a major declaration about his future in the NBA. Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Lakers, it might not be in their best interest.

For the first time ever, LeBron has come out with a definitive plan for his retirement. While The King did not exactly reveal where he intends to retire, James did admit the one burning desire he currently has before he hangs it up:

“My last year will be played with my son,” LeBron said, via Jason Lloyd of The Athletic. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”

Currently a junior in high school, Bronny James won’t be eligible for the draft until 2024. At the moment, LeBron’s deal with the Lakers will conclude at the end of the 2022-23 season. This leaves him with one year in limbo before his son is able to enter the NBA.

Will LeBron end up signing a one-year extension with the Lakers for the 2023-24 season? Can LA actually somehow get their hands on Bronny in the 2024 NBA Draft in order to convince LeBron to stay on for another year? Would they be willing to go to this length to keep a then 40-year-old LeBron?

It is also worth noting that in the same interview, LeBron revealed that the “door is not closed” on a potential return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Could he also be hinting about a plan that is already in place? Wouldn’t it be poetic if LeBron makes one final triumphant return to his home city after the Cavs draft Bronny in 2024? The father-and-son duo play one final year in Cleveland before LeBron James retires as a Cavalier?

Whatever the case may be, what is clear here is that there are so many moving parts involved. At this point, these are all speculations and it’s virtually impossible to predict what will happen in the next two or three years. James may have come out with a definitive statement here about his retirement, but in truth, it has left us with more questions than answers.
